Alec Christopher Smith, 21, of Edmond, Ok., passed away on June 1, 2017 in Oklahoma City, following a long struggle with mental illness and addiction. Born on December 21, 1995, in Denver, Co., he was the son of Kristen and Joshua J. Smith, of Edmond. The things Alec loved most in this world were his family and friends. He was kind and loving to all who knew him. He was an animal lover from a very young age, especially cats. Music and art were his passion. He was a national award winning artist and was never for from his sketch pad. He had his own sense of fashion and had hoped to design his own clothing label one day. He enjoyed seeing people laugh and was often doing goofy antics to make you smile. Alec was a 2014 graduate of Mission Academy, in Oklahoma City. Alec fought long and hard for the past several years, overcoming setbacks along the way, but in the end, it was just too much for him to bear any longer. There will be no shame in sharing his struggles. We hope and pray that he has finally found peace. To all that have given their love and support to Alec and his family though these trials, we thank you. In addition to his parents, he is survived by brothers’ Nicholas and Trevor, sister Ashlyn. His Grandma, Jonne Johnson, of Oklahoma City; Aunt and Uncle Kelly Odom & Jason Stacy, and Cousins’, Madison and Franchesca, of Edmond. A memorial will be held for Alec at 3pm on June 10, 2017, at Life Church (Britton and Broadway campus, 9001 Broadway Extension) in Oklahoma City.
