Alice "Maurine" Carver passed from this earth March 31, 2009. She was born to Ernest Ivan and Bertha Lee Hickey March 12, 1927. Maurine graduated from Capital Hill High School in 1944. She began working for Western Union, transferring to Washington D.C., and was there when the lights were turned back on at the White House at the end of World War II. Later, after transferring to Los Angeles, she witnessed the one and only flight of the Spruce Goose, built by Howard Hughes. She met and married the love of her life Robert P. Carver in 1948. They lived in Venezuela, where Bob worked in the oil industry. Upon returning to the U.S.A. they owned and operated a business in Colorado City, TX. Maurine retired from The Oklahoma Publishing Company after 28 year of service. She was a member of the Eastern Star and friend of "Bill W." and later became employed at The Referral Center. She was very passionate about the program and spent a lot of her time helping others, feeling this was a calling in her life. Early in her years she enjoyed golf, playing bridge, and then flower gardening, reading, sewing, and camping. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sister DeAnna McCall. She is survived by her three children, John Carver (Rosalyn), Robert Carver (Marilyn), and daughter Amy Harris (Walter), nine grandchildren, and seven great-grand children. She is also survived by her two sisters, Evelyn Lavonne Hatfield and Alzada Middleton, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The Family wishes to Thank Forest Glade, Hospice of Oklahoma County, Dr. Elliott, and a very special thank-you to The Odyssey House. A Celebration of her Life and Memorial service will be held at New Hope United Methodist Church, located at N.W. 114th and Council Rd, the afternoon of Saturday, April 4th at one o'clock.
