Born to Hilding and Elsa Wicander in Karlstad, Sweden. She traveled by ship across The Atlantic Ocean to the United States in 1954 settling in Salt Lake City, UT. In 1956 she moved to Phoenix, AZ where she met Robert (Bob) James Glass. Bob was serving in the United States Air Force, and they married in 1957.
