Benjamin Thomas Guthrie, age 95, of Edmond, Oklahoma, having lived a good full and healthy life, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2013. He was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on December 26, 1917, the son of Daniel J. and Annis O. (Duckworth) Guthrie. Including Benjamin, there were eleven children in the Guthrie family consisting of seven sons and four daughters. Benjamin was a veteran and saw much active combat in WW II. After his honorable discharge he practiced farming in Manitou, Oklahoma for ten years. He then moved his family to Enid, Oklahoma and worked in the bricklaying trade for several years. He later retired after working as a machinist for the Geo. E. Failing Company of Enid. Benjamin, better known as Ben, spent his early retirement years living in Mexico with his wife Maria. They both returned to the United States and spent their final retirement years living in Edmond, Oklahoma. Ben was still active and driving at the age of ninety-three, until his health began to slowly fail him. During the last months of Ben’s life he was a resident of the Veterans Retirement Home at Norman, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by: his parents, by his first wife Eula Ione (Storey) Guthrie, and his second wife Maria T. (Perz Meyran) Guthrie; also, by his son Dennis Guthrie, and by his granddaughter Christian, the daughter of Dennis Guthrie. He is survived by: one brother Udell Guthrie; three children: Deanna (husband Gary) Smith, Eva (husband Gary) Goeringer, and Gary (wife Nancy) Guthrie; ten grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The Memorial service is being held at 7:00 p.m., Friday July 19, at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 15400 N. Western, Oklahoma City, 73013. The Rev. Dawn Enderwood is the church pastor and officiating minister of today’s service. Refreshments will be served following the memorial service.
