May - Oklahoma City, OK - Dr. Burl Edward Mackey was born August 26,1951 in Kingfisher, OK to Carl and Jeanne (Karrenbrock) Mackey. Burl married the love of his life, Betty (Leighton) Mackey on May 31, 1970 in Fort Cobb, OK. Burl committed his life to the Lord, faithfully serving as pastor of First Baptist Church, Gould, OK for three years, First Baptist Church, Verden, OK for eight years, and First Baptist Church, Stroud, OK for more than twenty-four years. Most recently, Burl served with his wife Betty as associate house parents at Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children in Oklahoma City. Burl’s passions in life were his Lord, his wife, and his family. Burl went to be in the healing arms of his Savior on March 19, 2014. Burl was preceded in death by his father, Carl Mackey of Kingfisher, OK. Burl is survived by his wife Betty Mackey of the home; daughter Kathy Raffety and husband, James, of Edmond, OK; son Greg Mackey and wife, Valerie, of Albuquerque, NM; son Mark Mackey and wife, Shannon, of Choctaw, OK; and daughter Natalie Houtz of Oklahoma City; two grandsons, Jacob and Jackson Raffety of Edmond, and two granddaughters, Katie Raffety of Edmond and Adeline Mackey of Choctaw; mother Jeanne Mackey of Kingfisher, brothers Steve Mackey and wife, Sheila, of Duncan, Stan Mackey and wife Almeda of Fort Cobb, Bruce Mackey and wife Sharri of Edmond, and Kirk Mackey and wife Angeli of Norman; 6 nieces, three great-nieces, three great-nephews, and a host of other family and friends. There will be a viewing held Friday, March 21st from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at Corbett Funeral and Cremation Service, 807 W. Wilshire Blvd, Oklahoma City, followed by a celebration of his life at 10:00 am on March 22 at Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in his name to either the Oklahoma City campus of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children or Boys Ranch Town in Edmond.
