Charles Deloy Pollard, 81 of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on May 24, 2015. Dad, “Deloy” to many, “Charles” to some was born in the midst of the Great Depression. The last of 7 children, he remained very close to his family with whom he had gone through so much in his early years.
The defining role in his life was his long service to his country in the Air Force. He traveled to over 60 countries in more than 25 years in the Air Force and the Oklahoma Air National Guard. Deloy served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and brought back with him stories and experiences from all corners of the globe.
Despite his world travels though, he remained a true down-to-earth Okie in the nicest sense of the word. He loved gardening, tinkering, building and in general working with his hands. But he was also astute at detailed political discussions, always had an opinion and always went his own way. Deloy personified the simplicity and the friendliness of Oklahomans; always a kind word; always a smile. The true ‘salt of the earth’.
Above all though he had a truly dry and self-effacing sense of humor. He will be remembered and loved for this by all those that knew him. Charles Deloy Pollard born 05/16/1934, died 05/24/2015 at the age of 81. Lived in OKC most his life. Born in Warren, OK but raised in Blair, OK. Retired from the Oklahoma Air National Guard. Preceded in death by his parents, Monte M. and Edwinda May (Hodgeson) Pollard, Brothers J.D. Pollard and Earl Pollard, sisters Voncille Briscoe, Bobbye Nell Mosely and Veda Pfortmiller. He is survived by a daughter, Lesia Pollard and a son, David Pollard and his husband Michael Schulze, three grandchildren, Daniel Albert and wife Kat, Lyndsey Chlebek and husband Toby and Joshua Norris, and ten great-grandchildren: Maysie, Drake, Brianna, Haleigh, Zayne, Cristian, Ryland, Alysah, Hayden and Lucille. He is also survived by his older brother Kenneth and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also still surviving and playing very important roles in his life for many years were his wives Linda Pollard (Lesia and David’s mother) and Marilyn Pollard. In his final years, his little dog Chrystal, was the light of his life. At this time the services for Charles are scheduled for Saturday, May 30th at 2:00 PM at Castle Falls Grand Hall (820 N MacArthur Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73127).
