Charlotte L. Emmer

d. July 17, 2013

Charlotte Ladinsky Emmer, 91, of Oklahoma City, died Wednesday July 17. She was born to Morris and Rose Davis Ladd, Nov. 18, 1921, in St. Louis, Mo. Charlotte graduated from University City High School in 1939. She married the late Louis Emmer in 1940, and they lived together in several different cities in the U.S. including Springfield, MO, Des Moines, IA, Oklahoma City, OK, and El Paso, TX where they created many fond memories. They started their family in Amarillo, TX where they made many friends, were active members of Temple B’nai Israel, and involved themselves deeply in the community. After their children had grown, Charlotte moved back to Oklahoma City with her husband where she remained for 45 years. During her husband’s service in the US Army during WWII, Charlotte stayed in Oklahoma City with her Aunt Bess and Uncle Leo Schwartz and their daughter Corinne. At this time, while working for Zale’s, she bonded with many other military wives with whom she would remain friends throughout her lifetime. After Lou’s return, Charlotte enjoyed her roles as both housewife and mother, and she played an integral role in the success of her husband’s business endeavors. She recurrently served as treasurer of the Hadassah Sisterhood at the temple in Amarillo and the synagogue in Oklahoma City. Charlotte’s many joys in life included sports, literature, and entertaining friends and family. She bowled, loved to play golf, tennis, and many card games. Mahjong was a personal favorite. Spending time with her loved ones, however, always gave her the most joy. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband in 1999 and by her brother, Sidney Ladd only several years ago. She is survived by two children: Stephanie Emmer Garonzik and Michelle Tandy as well as four grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday July 21st at Emanuel Hebrew Cemetery, located at Western Avenue, South of 104th street. Helene Harpman will conduct the funeral service as well as the immediately following shiva minyan. The minyan will take place at the home of Orin and Stan Solloway: 4409 Briarcrest Dr. Norman, OK.
