Danny Steve Barrett, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on May 16, 2024. Born on April 14, 1942, in Glendora, CA, Danny was a man of immense stature, both physically and in the hearts of all who knew him. He cherished his family, friends, and country above all else, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations.
Throughout his life, Danny found joy in the simple pleasures—hunting, fishing, and playing pool with his wife and friends. A proud veteran of both the Navy and Army, he dedicated many years of service to his country before retiring as a detective for the Seattle Police Department.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Linda Barrett of Newalla, OK; his children, Jeremy (Lucinda) Caron of Turlock, CA, Shannon Parmley (Garnett) of Wilton, CA, Carrie Irwin (Karl) of Wellston, OK, and Kim Matthews of Oregon. He was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who brought him endless happiness. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will always cherish his memory.
Danny was predeceased by his son Ricky Barrett. Despite this loss, his family takes comfort in knowing that Danny's kind spirit lives on through each of them.
A local memorial service will be held in Oklahoma on Saturday, June 1, from 2-4 pm at the Tecumseh American Legion Hall. Following this service, Danny will be laid to rest with full military honors at the San Joaquin National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to organizations close to Danny's heart: Sea Cadets in care of the Tecumseh American Legion, Seattle Police Chaplains Association (PO Box 3792, Seattle, WA 98124), and Turlock VFW Post 5059 (1405 E Linwood, Turlock, CA 95380).
Danny will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering love for his family, dedication to his country, and passion for life leave an indelible mark on those who mourn his loss. May he rest in eternal peace knowing he was truly loved and respected by many.
