Diana Lynn Gass was a loyal wife of nearly 55 years and a devoted mother to her four children. Known for her unwavering faith and boundless love for her family, Diana's nurturing spirit and compassionate heart touched the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and cherished memories that will be forever treasured by her loved ones. Diana succumbed to her decade-long battle with cancer at 12:45 p.m. on November 10, 2020, surrounded by several members of her family.
Diana was born in Yakima, Washington to parents Doris Marie (Danaher) and Robert Kenneth Marshall on September 10, 1947. In 1965, Diana graduated from Superior High School. She married Michael Allan Gass of Edgar Nebraska on December 12, 1965, in Concordia, KS. The justice of the peace who was officiating their elopement invited the young couple to his house to perform their vows.
Diana helped Mike on the farm in Edgar until it was sold when he decided to change to a career in horseracing. She then worked in the nursing home and filling station in Edgar. When Mike started his own Thoroughbred racing stable in 1974, Diana helped in many areas including acting as the stable pony girl while traveling the racing circuit.
In 1980, the Gass family moved to Oklahoma. Diana worked with Mike and the O’Grady family in boxing promotion until she started working for Custom Photo. In 1983, the family moved to Fort Gibson, OK, where they ran the Muskogee Sonic Drive-In. When Mike was transferred to the Sonic Drive-In in Bartlesville in 1985, the family moved to Dewey, OK. In 1988, Mike and Diana moved to Jones, OK, to be near Remington Park. In May 1993, Diana began working at First American Title and celebrated 26 years of dedicated service at her retirement party in August 2019.
"She is survived by her husband, Mike Gass, of Jones, Oklahoma; her brother, Rick Marshall of Wellington, Florida; and her sister, Heidi Ruby of Fort Worth, Texas. She is also survived by her children: Shelly Asche, her husband Brad, and their son Marshall of Tulsa, OK; Michael Gass, his wife Julie, and their children Alexis, Ashlynn, Abigail, and Aidan of Edmond, OK; Mark Gass and his sons Chad and Toben of Jones, OK; and Shiela O’Toole, her husband Michael, and their children Hayli Hoffman and Hannah Burks (Ayton) of Edmond, OK, Caleb O’Toole and his wife Jenna, Justin O’Toole, and Nathan O’Toole and his wife Caroline Whitmarsh, as well as nieces and nephews, many cousins and a host of dear friends."
Diana was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Marie Marshall, and brother, Bob Levene. One not to be fussed over, Diana requested no funeral and would like to be cremated and buried in Womer, KS where she had so many wonderful childhood memories with her brother Bob and Grandma Ada Rabb. In lieu of flowers or memorials, Diana would have preferred that you would assist those in need, or make a child smile.
