Doris was born on February 4, 1921 in Charlotte, NC and went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2016 in Oklahoma City. She was the fourth of eight children of Dallas and Pearl Ramsey. After high school, Doris attended Lees-McRae Jr. College in the mountains of North Carolina. She then attended the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, graduating with a B.S. degree in Home Economics.
Doris met her husband, Ted, during WWII at a USO dance near Greensboro where she was teaching. When Ted was sent oversees, she came to Oklahoma City to help his grandparents. After their deaths, she remained in Oklahoma City, teaching at the federal nursery-kindergarten until it closed, then became a teaching assistant at Sequoyah Elementary School. One month before her older daughter, Charlotte, was born, Doris received her M.A. degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1948.
