Elizabeth (Lis) Feigel Gillum, born February 24, 1939 in Evansville, Indiana, passed away January 5, 2023 with her husband of 62 years at her side.
Lis met her future husband, Ronald (Ron) Gillum while attending DePauw University obtaining bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Economics. Following graduation, Ron and Lis married on December 27 1960 and moved to Chicago where she worked at the American Medical Association as a research assistant preparing presentations for AMA officials and at Household Financial Corporation as an amortization specialist and programmer for the 50 States and Canada to put Ron through medical school before resigning to raise her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Robert and Marian Feigel and her sister, Barbara Ann Rice.
Lis is survived by her husband, Ronald Gillum, MD, and her children; Colonel (Ret.) David Gillum and wife Debra Japzon Gillum, Ph.D. of Virginia; Paul Gillum and wife Rebecca of Oklahoma; and daughter Kathie Smith and husband Eric of Arizona; and twelve grandchildren, of Virginia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Arizona.
Lis raised and loved her family in homes on two continents and five states. She enjoyed service to God and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, devoting her time to work with her congregation and to her deep interest in genealogy. She opened her home to individuals and families from three countries who had nowhere else to go. She delighted in solving puzzles and logic problems and remained the best mathematician in the family throughout her life.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 11 at the Norman LDS Stake Center, 1506 West Imhoff Road, Norman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Autism Speaks, https://autismspeaks.org
