Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Belt Flanagan died January 27, 2012 in Oklahoma City, OK after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born February 23, 1934 in Crawford County, Arkansas to Margaret Susan Peevy and Elmer Virgil Belt. She was the youngest of three sisters. She graduated from Alma High School, attended Hendrix College, and married Troy Flanagan. Troy’s career took them to three states, Texas, Tennessee, and Oklahoma, before they arrived in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1980. She was a lifelong Methodist, serving the church as long as she was able, and most recently belonged to Grace United Methodist Church in Wilmington. She was an excellent seamstress, she played the piano by ear, and she learned to snow ski in New Mexico at age 44, a hobby that she continued at Sugar Mountain for a number of years. She especially enjoyed her “tennis group” in Wilmington. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ruth Blaylock and Dorothy Dean, and her husband. She is survived by four children, Mary Sheets of Oklahoma City, Sarah Fiero of Fuquay Varina, NC, John Flanagan of Hendersonville, TN, and Joseph Flanagan of Statesville, NC, and seven grandchildren.
