Faye Wilcox

d. July 18, 2010

Faye Wilcox Lyda Faye (Jenkins) Wilcox, 74, died July 18, 2010 in Norman.  Born December 26, 1935 to Herbert and Lida (Niles) Jenkins.  The oldest of five children, Faye was proud to be a life-long Oklahoman, except for a few years spent in California while her father served in World War II.  She had many fond memories of attending Southeast High School and graduated in 1953.  Faye worked at Tinker Air Force Base for many years, where she met her husband, Wilbur "Red" Wilcox.  They married in 1964 and lived for a time in Del City and Moore.  With their four children, they moved to Norman in 1972 and became active in the community and local politics. She lived most recently at The Gardens assisted living center in Norman.  Faye was very involved in the Norman school system and was a motivating force in the founding and development of the Gifted and Talented program in the Norman Public Schools.  Following a spinal cord injury and lengthy rehabilitation therapy at Craig Hospital in Denver, she exceeded all expections and continued for many years with the gardening and remodeling projects that she loved.  During that time, she was a board member for Progressive Independence of Norman and remained active in the community.  Although later health problems prevented her participation, she was always interested in the Norman community and schools.  She was a die-hard Sooner fan, following men's and women's basketball, softball, baseball, and of course, football.  She also cheered on the OSU Cowboys, and more recently the OKC Thunder.  Faye was a long-time supporter of OETA/PBS and KGOU/NPR.  She enjoyed sewing, reading, the outdoors, and collecting Southwestern and Native American art.  Preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and one brother, and her son Donald, she is survived by three daughters (Trish Mohr of Lone Grove, Jamileh Wilcox of Norman, and BK Bleakley of Colorado), three step-children, two sisters, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.  She will be greatly missed. A memorial service is being planned, please check back for further details.  Your memories and mementos of Faye would be greatly appreciated. The family requests memorial donations in lieu of flowers, to Progressive Independence, KGOU, or Craig Hospital.   "¢Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  KGOU:  http://www.kgou.org/ "¢Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Progressive Independence:  http://www.progind.org/ "¢Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Craig Hospital:  http://www.craighospital.org/ A celebration of Faye"™s life will take place at the The Hall at Old Town Plaza, 102 W.
