Funeral Mass Saturday, July 8th, 2017 - 11:00 AM - All Souls Episcopal Church - Chapel of St. Mary 6400 N Pennsylvania Ave - Oklahoma City, OK - 73116 Gary Lynn Thompson was born on September 24, 1938, to Hoke and Jessie Thompson in Olustee, Oklahoma, where he was raised on the family farm. He moved to Moore, and later Norman, and earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Oklahoma. Gary was an officer in the United States Army Reserves and served a tour of active duty in Germany, after which he earned his Ph.D. in Geography at Michigan State University. Gary returned to Oklahoma where he taught Geography at the University of Oklahoma for 30 years and retired as Professor Emeritus in 1998. Gary was a loving husband, father, teacher, and mentor. He is survived by his wife Deborah of Edmond, three sons, one daughter, and five grandchildren: Mark Gregory Thompson, wife Carolyn, and son James of Los Angeles, California; Kent Eric Thompson of Cambridge, Massachusetts; David James Thompson, wife Heather, daughters Scarlet Rose and Cosette Elise, and son Caspar Elyea of Texarkana, Texas; Sarah Elise Wolf, husband John Justin, and son John Cole, of Oklahoma City. The family expresses their gratitude for the helping hands and hearts that have accompanied them through the last several years.
