James Thomas ( Tommy) Garton was born March 21, 1943 in Charleston, West Virginia and slipped away to his heavenly home on June 13, 2013 in Oklahoma City. He was the third child and first son born to Cletis and Thelma Garton. Tommy grew up in the Charleston West Virginia area and graduated from Dupont High School in 1961. After high school he went into the Air Force and then found his way to Oklahoma City. In Oklahoma City he worked for Dulaney's Incorporated, Western Paper Company, and Xpedx. He enjoyed music of various types and spending time on Facebook catching up with old friends and making new ones. He leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Mike Haas and grandchildren Emily, Erin and Andrew Haas of Hurst, Texas, and a son, Bryan Garton of Oklahoma City. Also mourning his passing are his sisters Ruth Moore and brother-in-law Dave of Tulsa, Linda Ferrell of Midwest City, and brother Gary and sister-in-law Kay of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and numerous nieces and nephews, along with the mother of his children, Marlene Gorby. He was preceded in death by his parents and two nieces. James' family made the generous gift of donating his body to science for medical research, innovation and education through the non-profit GenLife Institute. GenLife Institute exists to provide people throughout the world with the ability to make a difference for future generations while living healthier and longer lives.
