Brother James Edward Hall, aka Uncle Brother, was born January 7, 1937 to Edward Hall and Gertha Jones-Hall (Williams). He was the fifth child and only son. He was known to all as ‘Brother’. With this being said, all of his nieces, nephews and their friends called him “Uncle Brother”. He attended Fieldridge Elementary School in Harris, OK. The family moved to Oklahoma City in 1950 and he attended Douglass High School. He enlisted in the Air Force and served 4 years in the service of the United States of America receiving his HONORABLE discharge in 1957. After his discharge, he pursued work as a railroad worker, construction worker and truck driver. He, also, worked at a Barbeque store in Beaumont, Texas where he was able to prefect his talent for being the best expert griller. In 1985, he began to work at Tener’s as a Shoe Shine professional. He retired in 2013, but before the year was over, he decided to return to work part-time. In 1975, Brother Hall committed his life to Christ. In 2000, he united with Greater Christ Temple Church. He was a loyal member and continuously “pressed toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” He attended Sunday School, Bible Study and church services regularly and searched the scriptures for wisdom and knowledge. At Greater Christ Temple, he was a member of the Brotherhood Department and served on the Board of Trustee. He, also, stroked the guitar during Sunday Morning Worship Service. Jesus Christ became the love of his life and he wanted to share this love with everybody. James was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was deeply loved by all who knew him . . .he will be greatly missed. James was preceded in death by his father, mother and three sisters – Ruthie Hall, Otha Mae Jackson and Bessie Hall. Those left to cherish his memories are: four daughters, Betty Hall, Ephellis (James) Burton of Columbus, OH, Carolyn Jeffery, and Latisha Hall of Oklahoma City; his two sisters, Willie Mae Carter of Oklahoma City and Ulysses Magee of Tampa, FL; ten grandchildren, Jemal (Angela) Burton and Janee (Quinton) Stewart of Columbus, OH; Jeffery (Lisa) James, Corey James, Shamika James, Diontaye James, Quantaye Jeffery, Desiree Smith, Denzil Smith and Dallas Smith of Oklahoma City; nineteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
