James Owens

James E. Owens, Jr., husband of Anne Owens, of Oklahoma City, died on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at 10:45 am at his home. Born in Alexandria, LA on October 9, 1943, he was the son of Laura M. Drury of Leesburg, VA and the late James E. Owens, Sr. of Chambersburg, PA. A resident of Oklahoma City for 20 years, Mr. Owens was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection where he was an active member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and a dedicated volunteer delivering Mobile Meals. An avid aviation enthusiast and pilot, Jim was a member of the Oklahoma Pilots Association and the Quiet Birdsmen (the QB"™s). Jim enlisted in the PA National Guard in 1960, graduated from Officers"™ Candidate School in 1965, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. Jim served his country proudly, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and earning many military honors including the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, and the RVN Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star.
