Jim Shires

James Leroy Shires was born in Geary Oklahoma on April 27th, 1938 to Jinx and Lucy Shires. He was the baby of six, with three older sisters and two older brothers, Viola, Ruby and Lenora, and John and Jack. The brothers were the youngsters and got into a lot of mischief in their younger days. He went to Geary High School where he played basketball, football, and baseball, which he excelled at. After graduating, he and three buddies went to work for the forest department in North West Montana. He had worked several jobs before but this one seemed like an escape. It was not. He grew really tired of mountains and snow in a hurry. He lasted only a few months before returning home. He tried working with the railroad but the old depot stations smelled bad. Then he decided to try college and enrolled in Central State College in Edmond. The accounting major he chose was not for him. At age 21, he decided to become a cop in Oklahoma City.
