Jim Charles Wolfe was born on March 4, 1950, to Marion James (‘Buddy’) Wolfe and Anna Jean Boyd Wolfe of Davidson, Oklahoma. He grew up loving nature so much that his dad called him Hiawatha, because if he wasn’t in school, he was generally out on the farm or on his Uncle Ken’s ranch, exploring or fishing in the creek. He learned farming and ranching from his father and loved working with him. Jim was an outstanding baseball player. He graduated from Davidson High School in 1968 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma University in Weatherford. On August 29, 1970, he and Cynthia Sue Tolbert married and began a 52-year love story. They finished college together, graduating in 1972. Their beloved son, Michael Tolbert Wolfe, was born in1978.
Jim and Cindy moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma after college to teach in the Ardmore school system. Subsequent career moves included the Oklahoma Education Association and the Oklahoma Bankers Association, where he was a liaison with the Oklahoma Legislature. In 1983, he began working with The Baker Group investment banking firm and then became a partner. He had many wonderful co-workers and clients with whom he became very close friends. He also enjoyed mentoring younger people. Jim loved helping coach Mike’s sports teams, taking him fishing, having Mike’s friends around, and supporting him in everything he did. In retirement, Jim and Cindy enjoyed their family, friends, travel, gardening, beautiful sunsets, and appreciating God’s creations.
Jim went home to Heaven on November 18, 2022, after a valiant battle with cancer, with Cindy and Mike by his side. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; their son Mike and his wife, Meredith; and twin grandchildren, James William Wolfe and Georgia Elizabeth Wolfe, all of Edmond, each of whom loved him so dearly and whose love was returned in full measure. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wayne Boyd Wolfe; and many other treasured relatives and friends. Jim was a man of integrity and great concern for others. A Celebration of Life will be held at Crossings Community Church of Oklahoma City on Friday, December 9, 2022, at 1 pm.
The family is so appreciative of the physicians, nurses, and staff who took such good care of Jim; and the wonderful Mercy Hospice staff, especially Bobbie, his nurse, an angel on earth who was our lifeline in recent months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jim’s name to Mercy Hospice, Crossings Community Church, The Homeless Alliance, The Regional Food Bank, all of Oklahoma City; or a church or charity of one’s choice.
