Joe Darrell Murphy, 74, died of esophageal cancer on April 26, 2012 at Integris Hospice in Oklahoma City. Joe was born April 1, 1938 on the family farm near Billings, Oklahoma. He attended Billings High School and participated in football and track. Upon high school graduation in 1956, Joe enrolled at Oklahoma A&M (OSU) and graduated with a degree in Electronic Technology. He was then drafted and served in the U.S. Army as a specialist in military intelligence while stationed in Turkey. After military service, Joe owned and operated a radio and TV repair shop in Garber, Oklahoma. In later years, he lived on the family farm, raising cattle, wheat and operated a custom bailing service. He continued to love sports and filmed the Garber High School football games and was a frequent attendee of OSU sports. He also loved to fish and bowl. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Irving Earl and Velma Rae Murphy and two sisters, Cherry Linda (Murphy) King and Patricia Ann (Murphy) Johnson. He is survived by two brothers, Irving Ray Murphy of Chicago, Illinois and James Earl Murphy and wife Paulette of Balch Springs, Texas, and two sisters, Leila Rose (Murphy) Ramsey of Edmonds, Washington and Nita Jean (Murphy) Sharp and husband Ray of Creede, Colorado and Stillwater, Oklahoma. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. Interment will be in Polo Cemetery with the date and time of graveside services to be announced at a later date.
