John Valton Thorp was born in San Angelo, Texas, on January 18, 1943 and passed away on September 23, 2010. John was married to Linda Green on December 19, 1967 in Amarillo, Texas. John is survived by 2 sons, John Eric Thorp and Quinton Thorp, one brother, Bill H. Wilkinson, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, several nieces and nephews, his grandson Randall Justice Thorp and Kylynn Jordan Thorp. Loren Piccalo and Kim Maness are his daughters-in-law. John attended school in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Ponca Military Academy. He graduated in 1959. While John was at PMA he attained the rank of cadet, acting lieutenant. He was a marksman with many medals. He loved to work in the yard, and ESPECIALLY liked for his lawn to be edged. John loved driving a big old' truck, shooting guns, fishing, going in his RV, and his most passionate and long-lasting love was collecting coins. He was a loving father and grandfather, and generally entertaining man to be around. Nobody could tell stories like him. He would often get so tickled while telling stories that he would turn purple and slap his knees while breathlessly trying to finish his hilarious tale. As much as John loved telling stories, I believe he liked hearing them even more. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him. He has found peace at least. Good bye my love!!!!
