W. H. Shockey Jr. passed away peacefully, after a short illness, at the age of 83. He is survived by an older brother, John Shockey, by his son WIlliam S. Shockey and by David G. Swaim, son of his recently deceased second wife Lillian, and the extended Swaim family. He was a man of his times, and as such grew up in the bucolic Oklahoma City of the 1930's, riding his bicycle across town to lifeguard at Springlake Park. Instead of accepting a full vocal scholarship a OCU, he enlisted to fight in the Second World War, serving in combat in Europe with the 10th Mountain Division and later the 45th Division. In peacetime, he helped to shape our modern American society by working in the ever-expanding field of advertising. Starting with the selling of classified and display ads for the Los Angeles Examiner, he went on to help refine the then-fledgling outlets of radio and television as a member of mid-western regional advertising agencies until his retirement here as president of Lowe Runkle Company.
