Juanita Swanson passed from this life on Sat. March 17th, 2018. A very outspoken voice has been silenced but the echoes remain. Mom was born in Akron, Ohio on April 9th, 1925 to Anita and Elmer R. Lastrapes. Preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, mom was the last of a group of strong women. Mom married Earl Swanson and together they raised eight children. Nan Wilcox and husband Duane of Earlville, N.Y.; Claudia Nelson and husband Ed of Tulsa, Ok.; Paula Grogan of Newcastle, Ok.; Olin Swanson and wife Susie of Little Axe, Ok.; Eric Swanson of Okla. City, Ok.; Scarlett Strawn and husband Tedd of Okemah, Ok.; Jeff Swanson of Ridgeway, S.C. and Jason Swanson of Okla. City.,Ok. Mom was also blessed with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. When asked the final tally of grands and greats she would just say she lost count. Mom was also instrumental in being a positive influence on her twin nieces, Joan and Janet. To this day there are sayings and incidents that "Aunt Nita" was famous for and which will never be forgotten. Mom leaves a hole in our lives. We were all taught to speak our minds so we guess mom has not really left us. Along with her children, mom leaves behind her special love, George, and her two special girls, Mandy and Coco. Special thanks to Encompass Hospice for all of their love and support in helping mom on her last journey. Mom wasn't big on tears so to honor her life there will be a celebration honoring her on Sat. March 24th, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, Post 13 at 239 S.E. 57th, Okla City, Ok. One other thing about mom. No one walked into her house without being offered something to eat and drink. We will always remember her wine making attempts, her cheese experiments and the infamous time in which she thought she would help dad make a batch of home brew. The next time you go fishing or plant a seed, remember mom. That's how she would want to be remembered. Au revoir mom.
