Judi Borchmann

d. April 4, 2012

Judith (Judi) Yvonne Borchmann, 67, of Oklahoma City, OK, went to be with her heavenly family on April 4th, 2012, while surrounded with the love and comfort of her earthly family. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on October 21st, 1944. She graduated from Southeast High School in Wichita, KS in 1963 and briefly attended college at Wichita State University, in 1966, where she studied nursing. In 1965 she became a Judo instructor at the local YWCA where she found a life-long personal passion for helping others. In 1967, she married Dale Olmstead and, in 1972, that marriage resulted in the birth of her only daughter, Mindra Jade Hernandez (nee Olmstead). In 1975, Judi and Dale divorced and she remained a single mom until 1987, when she met and married Ron Borchmann. Together, they ran a local business, Edmond Typewriter, until retirement in 1996. Throughout her lifetime, she had many occupations in the medical, daycare, finance and real estate fields. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Edmond, OK. She had many hobbies and interests including art, history (particularly Native American), music, playing guitar, singing, sewing, reading, watching classic movies, and traveling. She was always sassy and sharp-witted. She loved to joke around, laugh, and was never afraid to be silly to make someone else laugh or smile. Her most cherished use of time was being with her family, her pets, and caring for those she loved and those that were in need of motherly love. She was a loving mother-in-law to John Jaco and Tony Hernandez, even after they were no longer married to her daughter. Because of her caring nature, she often took in teens or young adults who needed a loving environment and family support, resulting in her having many people who were not her natural children call her “Mom”, such as John Weng, Doug Draper, Billy Scruggs, Mistique Bacon, Corby Suiter, and John Coleman. She didn’t have any natural grandchildren but she gladly acted as “Ya-Ya” (or Grandma) to many of her friends grandchildren and her “foster kid’s” children, most notably, Andrew Coleman. She is preceded in death by her father, James A. Bray, and mother, Juanita N. Bray; her brother L. Harold Bray and sisters Patricia Varvil and Carolyn Caldwell; several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as some close family friends. She is survived by her husband, Ron Borchmann of Oklahoma City, OK, her daughter Mindra Jade Hernandez, also of Oklahoma City, OK, and her brother-in-laws Wayman Varvil of Edmond, OK and George “Bud” Caldwell of Guthrie, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends who she loved dearly.
