Laura Elizabeth Chapman

December 23, 1917 — April 3, 2013

Laura Elizabeth (Hillhouse) Chapman, known to many as “Grannie”, passed away from natural causes during the evening of April 3, 2013 at her son’s home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Cremation will be in Oklahoma City under the direction of Corbett Funeral Home, and graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 11, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, Texas under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home. Pastor Bobby Roger of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Laura was born on December 23, 1917 in DeQueen, Arkansas to Joseph B. Hillhouse and Josephine Conley. She married Murry Lee Chapman during WWII and they had a son, Marvin Lee, and a daughter, Wanda Jo. Laura worked many jobs during her 95 years, but she was most proud of being a mom, of working in the San Angelo Bradford School cafeteria, and of her volunteer nursery service at Calvary Baptist Church. She loved gardening, hummingbirds and fishing. Her wonderful outlook on life and her great sense of humor were treasured examples for family and friends to follow. Her favorite book of the Bible was Matthew and her favorite hymn was In the Garden. Her death is our loss and heaven’s gain. Laura is survived by her son, Marvin (Jan) Chapman and their daughter, Tammy (Sean) Graham; her daughter, Wanda Jo (Terry) Bristow; her sister, Lorene Brown of Cape May, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Anita Hillhouse Alds of Palmdale, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her three brothers, Otis, Cecil and Marvin Hillhouse, her nephew, John Brown, and twin great-granddaughters Katherine Diane and Laura Elizabeth Graham. The family would like to thank everyone at Sooner Hospice for their special care and attention over the past three months. We would also like to thank Pastor Ron Christie and the congregation of Zion Lutheran Church, as well as all our friends and family, for their prayers. Memorials can be made to Sooner Hospice of OKC, Zion Lutheran Church of OKC, Calvary Baptist Church of San Angelo, TX, or to your favorite charity.
