Leota A. (Embry) Empson was born January 9, 1939 in Carter, Oklahoma to Estel & Fay Embry. She passed away peacefully in her Oklahoma City home on April 4, 2013. Leota was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (Ralph, Charles, and Wayne), one sister (Margaret), and one grandson (Roger). She is survived by Gordon Empson, her husband of twenty-two years, five children and their spouses; Jerry and Cheryl Privett, Beryl Ann Privett and Mark Davis, Teresa and Rick Hayes, Sunny Kay and Roger Hanna, LaDonna and Ronnie Hanna, one sister Juanita Irwin, ten grand children, eight step grand children, fifteen great grand children, twenty nieces and nephews, and numerous other family and friends. Leota had many passions in her life which included pets, fast cars, reading and casinos. She faithfully fed and cared for her cat Grey Bear, one in a long line of pets. Her passion for fast cars can be traced to her youth and apparently included at least one drag race on April 4, 1959. She was an avid reader, with tales of the Old West being among her favorites. However, she would happily set aside any book if invited to the casino, where she could spend hours playing. Above all else, her true love was for her family. The exhilaration Leota received from other activities paled in comparison to the joy she received spending time with her family. Anyone who knew her would recognize that wonderful smile on her face and the exuberance in her soul when she was with her children. She will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.
