Lyla Jackson Seghers passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Bellevue Health & Rehab in Oklahoma City, after a short illness, and just shy of her 100th birthday. Born Lyla Gaye Jackson on January 10, 1925 in Olustee, OK, she was the daughter of George Freeman & Mamie Gertrude Morgan Jackson.
Lyla lived in Dallas and later at Hide-A-Way Lake Club, Tyler, TX, where she loved to play golf. After a short time living in Gulf Shores, Alabama, she worked for Exxon in Irving, TX, Bachendorf’s Jewelers in Dallas, Lone Star Life Insurance, and later K Mart Insurance, as an administrative assistant where she retired. She had family connections in New Orleans, and Baton Rouge, LA. She also resided in Tulsa during her brother’s cancer, later moving to Oklahoma City where she remained.
She was an avid bridge player, and known for her love of reading. She had a very full life, always meticulously dressed, and was fiercely independent. Preceded in death by her husband Val W. Seghers, three sisters: Geraldine Farris, Norma Welch, and Joan Collins; two brothers: George B. “Billy” Jackson, and Jimmy F. Jackson. She is survived by her son David Arseneau, granddaughters Angela Blanco, and Julie Russell, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. There will be no public service. The interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City.
