Marie Alice (Griffin) Thee Elliott joined her husband and son in eternal glory when she passed away on March 16, 2010 at the age of 90. Marie was born April 13, 1919 in Albany, Georgia to Ben and Mattie (Johnston) Griffin. She lived in Georgia until moving to Jacksonville, Florida to attend beauty school. She enjoyed the years she spent as a professional beautician and made many life-long friends during these years. In 1945, Marie married the love of her life, Melvin Ernest Thee. They were blessed to build many happy memories with their four children until his passing in 1967. Marie was later remarried to James S. Elliott and was once again blessed with a happy union until he also passed. Through this marriage she also gained a stepson, Jerry Elliott. Her beloved son, Melvin E. Thee II, her brothers Elbert and James Griffin as well as her sister Margaret Griffin Hurt, also preceded Marie in death. She leaves behind her much-loved daughters and sons-in-law: Alice and Coy Haney, Ann and Warren Baker, and Sue and Tommy Hooker. In addition, Marie leaves grandchildren whom she loved and cherished dearly "“ Tommy Lee Johnson, Tabitha Ann Wheeler, Rebecca Ann Bagby, Melvin E. Thee III (Trey), Joshua Ryan Thee, Justin Michael Thee, and Timothy Thee Hooker. Marie was devoted to her children and grandchildren and spent many joyful hours in their company. They each hold their special memories of their Mom and "Granny". She will be thought of often and missed always. Throughout the years, Marie enjoyed volunteer work with Will Rogers World Airport, NARFE, Best Years and many other organizations. Marie loved people and was at her best when she could let her smile and Southern charm and accent shine through. She was a woman who remained in contact with friends and family from around the country throughout her life. Marie had an incredible "˜green thumb"™ and her flowers bloomed and brightened the world for all to see. She was disappointed that she would not see her flowers bloom again this year. Marie was also an excellent cook who was able to pull together a delicious meal on short notice. Her goulash, coconut cake and "Roach Cake" are second to none! The family would like to thank the dedicated and professional staff members at Deaconess Hospital and INTEGRIS Hospice House for their personal dedication and care to her needs in her last few weeks. They helped to make her passing gentle and painless. In addition to ministering to Marie they also ministered to her family during our difficult time. To honor Marie"™s request, no funeral service will be held. However, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marie"™s name to INTEGRIS Hospice House "“ 13920 Quailbrook Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73134, or a charity of your choosing. To all of Marie"™s friends and extended family, we wish you well and know that you will miss her also. We hope you know that you were an important part of her life and she treasured your friendship and love. Marie and "Thee" are now dancing to their song, "Till the End of Time". When you hear this song in the future, we pray you will think of them and smile!
