Marion Sylvia Winters, 94, of Oklahoma City passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Saturday, May 12, 2012. She was born on February 6, 1918 in Waukon, Iowa to Benjamin A. and Mary M. Davis. She grew up in Waukon, IA with her two older sisters, June and Helen. After graduating from Waukon High School, she attended the University of Iowa nursing school. Upon graduation she accepted a nursing position in Chicago, Illinois. Her love of dancing brought good fortune as she met her future husband, Delton E. Winters, at a local dance. Marion and Delton were married on December 7, 1941 in Chicago. Just over two years later, their daughter, Sheryl Lynne was born. Marion, Delton and Sheryl moved to Dubuque, Iowa in 1946 where Delton started a refrigeration business and Marion worked at Finley and Xavier Hospitals as a labor and delivery nurse. In 1954, Steven Lee was born. Marion enjoyed dancing, raising poodles, playing cards and especially cooking. Marion is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Dunham and her son Steven Winters; and grandchildren, Wendy Crawford, Lori Dustin and husband Mick, Ray Dunham and wife Laura, Rory Dunham and wife Mendy; and 12 great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15th at the Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK, with burial to follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Edmond, OK. The family would like to thank the many compassionate angels at St. Ann’s Nursing Home and Mercy Hospice who cared for Marion over the years and especially the last few weeks of her life.
