In 1969 the family moved to Dallas where Mark attended St. Mark’s School before graduating from Trinity Christian Academy in 1978. He attended Baylor University before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1983. In 1984 Mark met Angela Rice while working in the china and crystal department at Marshall Fields in Dallas. Thus began an eight year courtship as well as a whirlwind of jobs and life decisions. Six years in the military brought Mark the resolve to complete his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1990. After some time in the business world (further spurred by a few armed robberies at his place of employment) he decided to pursue his MBA. Midway through his coursework at the University of North Texas he crossed paths with a principal from a local elementary school helping to hone his passion for young people and leading him to a career in education. He began his teaching career with 5th and 6th graders in a public school in DeSoto, TX. Mark and Angela married in 1993 and welcomed their first child Rachael in 1998, followed by Sean Mark in 1999. While pursuing a career change to private school education in 2000, Mark was so warmly welcomed by the great people of Oklahoma that he moved his young family to Edmond where he spent the next 9 years as a teacher and administrator in the middle and upper divisions at Casady School in Oklahoma City. Worship and service to their new community began as Mark hosted a regular Bible study for boys at school, and later as Mark and Angela hosted the study for all students each week in their home for many years. In 2003 their 3rd child Joshua was born. In 2009 Mark accepted the position as Dean of Students at Oklahoma Christian School in Edmond, culminating in a 20 year career as a compassionate servant leader pouring into the hearts of his students as teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. Mark’s legacy continues to be seen in the hearts and successes of the multitude of students he touched throughout his life. Mark faithfully served the Body of Christ at Grace Bible Church in Dallas, TX and Faith Bible Church in Edmond, OK as deacon, elder and Bible teacher. In 2015 God led the family to Redemption Church where Mark was excited at the prospect of worshiping, mentoring, and sharing his testimony as he faithfully, obediently, and willingly followed the Lord through his most challenging and trying days. On Thursday, March 17 Mark claimed his promise of life eternal as he went home to be with his Savior. He is healed and whole. He is preceded in death by his father Bill and his mother-in-law Virginia Rice. He is survived by his wife Angela and children Rachael, Sean Mark, and Joshua; his mother Nancy; his brother Matt and wife Lucy, and nephews Daniel and Ian; his sister Kimberly; his brother Patrick and wife Holly, and niece Kate, and nephew Luke; father-in-law Arthur Rice; sister-in-law Lauretta Rice Colvin and husband Tom, and nieces Caitlin and Gillian; as well as countless brothers and sisters in Christ.
