Marvin Ellis Johnson, Jr. was born to Marvin Ellis Johnson, Sr. and Norma La Juene Wells in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on January 2, 1949. He was one of the first babies born at Edwards Hospital. During his school days at Moon Junior High he walked home at night with wet hair from swimming. At Douglas, he enjoyed wrestling competition. After school, he assisted his grandmother in the operation of her grocery store. He was always a regular but hungry customer. In May 1967, he graduated from his beloved Douglas High school. He enjoyed attendance and activities at Langston where he graduated with a degree in Education. He pledged Omega Psi Phi. He returned to the Oklahoma City area and was employed as a classroom teacher at John Marshall High School. He continued in education as a substitute classroom teacher through 1993. He managed his grandmother’s properties and laughingly referred to himself as a “ghetto” landlord. However, he was always compassionate and forgiving to tenant s. Marvin’s door was open to any stray; human or animal. He was a loyal and humorous friend to those who knew him. He remarried in 1991 and his blended family was joined by a son in 1992. He was also a faithful husband. He supported family by traveling to visit his Great Aunt Lillian and her husband Wash and their many cousins in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas. He often drove at night to attend stomp dances and other Euchee Tribe functions. Marvin was an active Muscogee Creek Citizen voter.
