Mary Grace “Randy” Gamel, a Texas native and longtime resident of Tulsa, passed away on December 10, 2017, after a lengthy illness. Randy was born in San Antonio on December 23, 1930, as the only child of Ida and Randolph Arhart. She graduated from Jefferson High School where she was a proud member of the school’s “Lasso Girls” performing troupe. She graduated with an education degree from Trinity University in San Antonio. On Labor Day weekend 1955, Randy attended Beacon Hill Baptist Church with her parents, and her mother scrambled to greet a handsome man who was visiting -- and boldly invited him to their home for dinner. The meal must have been good. Four months later, on December 29, Randy wed Weldon “Bill” Gamel in the same church. The couple settled to the Houston area, and then to Tulsa in 1974. Randy worked as a teacher in her early years, and later as a real estate agent in Tulsa. She was active in a number of charities and civic groups, including AAUW, Opera Guild, Welcome Wagon and numerous arts organizations. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tulsa for many years. Randy is survived by her husband of 62 years, and daughter Ellen Ingram of Stillwater (and son-in-law Dale). She was affectionately known as “Grandy” by her three grandsons: Jeff Ingram of Little Rock (and Jessi); Ross Ingram of Lawrence, Kan. (and Dora), and Nate Ingram of Stillwater. Randy loved shopping with her daughter, traveling, and all things social. While Randy achieved many things on her own, she was most proud of her family. She never missed an opportunity to tell others about their accomplishments, often giving quite embellished versions! She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Neal. Private funeral services are being arranged by Corbett Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.
