Piscitello was born on October 1, 1948 in New Haven, CT to Agnes (Malaro) Piscitello and Placido Piscitello. She passed from this earth on June 12, 2015 at the age of 66.
Growing up as a teenager, Mary worked in her father’s butcher shop and discovered she had a talent for working with people. When it came time for college, she pursued her love of numbers and entered Southern Connecticut State College as a math major with a physics minor. Planning to be a teacher she got a master’s degree in Education. Mary pursued further education at Oklahoma State University, pursuing a Doctor’s of Philosophy degree in Statistics. She was accompanied by Annmarie Harvey-Shirazi in graduate studies, where they embarked upon the foundations of a lifelong friendship. Mary worked as a statistician and programs manager for the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Throughout her life Mary had a passion for people and pet rescue. She loved to dance and enjoyed music. If you started the lyrics to a song, she would finish it. She was proud of her Sicilian/Italian heritage, and family was of prime importance to her. She was an extrovert and loved to help and interact with people. She was always able to strike up a conversation and make strong business and personal connections. Mary retired in 2010 to Gainesville, Florida to be nearer her daughter, Katye M. Poole, who was working towards her PhD in Chemistry at the University of Florida. Mary’s later past-times included reading, watching Dancing with the Stars and eating good food! She was always up for some Jamoca Almond Fudge, a great Ribeye steak or some salmon her daughter seared up on the grill. Mary is survived by her daughter, Katye M. Poole and her partner Gail E Fanucci, sister Patricia Woodring and husband George Woodring, sister Joanne Piscitello and husband Richard Martorelli, niece Cara Kovalovich, Cara’s father Kurt Kovalovich, ex-husband Joe “Joseph” W.
