After staring cancer in the face for 3 years with hope, humor, and fierce determination, Sunshine Schillings of OKC, at age 63, passed away at home on December 27, 2018 with Tonya, her partner of 34 years, at her side. Shine is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Erma Schillings of Shreveport, LA. She is survived by her brother Tony and wife Mary Schillings of Shreveport, LA - brother Steve and wife Debbie Schillings of Doyline, LA, and Bill Pruitt of Austin, TX. Her favorite people on the planet were her nieces and nephews Stephanie Marie, Savannah, Brittany, Heather, Stephanie Dawn, James, Kyla Ann, Pierce and Jered. Sunshine loved spending time with family and friends – cooking, fishing, camping, and boating. She also loved Mexican beer, crawfish and, listening to the blues. Sunshine’s passion, and her life’s work was to fight for those who couldn’t fight for themselves. She believed in community-based organizations to help those in need, be it health care, food, housing, mental health, or legal services. As a result of this passion, she was involved in funding and oversite of local and federal grants in OKC and rural communities in each of these areas. She worked in every aspect of HIV/AIDS since the 1980s and her fire and compassion to make a difference earned her many awards and accommodations. Sunshine gave a voice to the voiceless and hope to many. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Homeless Alliance or The Winds’ House.
