Melanie Ann Reniers, 45, beloved daughter, sister, and friend, died on February 3, 2025, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born on November 29, 1979, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Melanie was the daughter of Frances Wood Kersey, stepfather Coy Kersey and Richard C. Reniers Jr.
Melanie was a friend to many, bringing her loving and giving soul to those who entered her life. Melanie was devoted to her family, her sisters, her niece and her nephew.
She was a graduate of Putnam City North High School in 1998 and attended Kansas Newman University on a basketball and academic scholarship. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Thunder, Sooners, Nike tennis shoes, summers in southern California and New Mexico, Lake Tenkiller. She loved dogs, butterflies, and helping others. Her kindness was not just a thought but a way of being. The world is a better place because of Melanie’s presence.
Melanie would openly share of her struggles with addiction and mental illness. She lived with her challenges and worked very hard to overcome them. She relentlessly participated in therapy, programs, and support in pursuit of a life of peace.
Because of her challenges, she became a founding member of Oasis Clubhouse, a member of NAMI National, NAMI OK, NAMI Greater OKC, and an In Our Own Voice and Connection Facilitator.
Melanie’s survivors include her mother, Frances Kersey, stepfather, Coy Kersey, and father, Rich Reniers. She is also survived by her sisters, Jennifer Kitchens and Janel Bozarth; brothers-in-law, Jeff Kitchens and James Bozarth; and her niece, Isabel Bozarth and nephew, William Bozarth. Aunts and Uncles, Charles and Bonnie Wood, Peter and Lynn Reniers and Rick and Sara Kersey, Kersey family members and many cousins.
She was proceeded in death by grandparents Charles P. Wood Sr., Mae Thomas Wood, and Barbara and Richard Reniers; Uncle Kent Thomas Wood; Cousin, Stephen Kent Wood, and stepbrother David Kersey.
The family expresses their gratitude to NorthCare Behavioral Center, Diversion Hub, Teem, and Oasis Clubhouse and all who helped her on her journey.
A celebration of Melanie’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 13, 2025, Mayflower Congregational UCC Church, 3901 NW 63rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK.
