Col. Merle B. Jensen, Chaplain, USAR Retired passed away December 8, 2011.
Col. Jensen was a long time teacher in Shawnee, teaching at Shawnee Junior High, the Mid High and the High School. He taught Civics and Oklahoma History. Prior to coming to Shawnee, he had taught in Leedey, Martha and Lawton School systems.
He was born December 12, 1925 in Washington County, Nebraska to Clarence and Addie Mae Jensen. He was drafted into the Army during WWII where he served in the China, India and Burma campaign. After the war, he attended Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska where he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in English Literature. Col. Jensen re-enlisted as a First Lieutenant during the Korea Conflict. He served at various posts, ending his enlistment at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.
