Neal (Nick) Robert Kennedy (August 31, 1945 – October 13, 2017) was born in Oklahoma City to Dorothy Cornelia (Brown) and Garth Parks Kennedy. He is survived by his father of Oklahoma City, sister Lani Kennedy and her husband Lewis Kwit of New York City, and his life-long partner Melanie Rutherford of Piedmont, OK. He held a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona, and a J.D. (with honors) from Oklahoma City University. He was a registered Professional Engineer, and was a member of Sigma Tau, Pi Tau Sigma and Phi Delta Phi. An adjunct professor of law at Oklahoma City University, Nick had lectured on intellectual property matters for continuing legal education programs and civic groups. He was listed in The Best Lawyers in America. Professional associations included the American Bar Association, Oklahoma Bar Association, National Society of Professional Engineers, Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He served as president of the Engineering Club, and president of the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section of the Oklahoma Bar Association. He was a partner with the law firm of Dougherty, Hessin and Beavers, and of counsel with McAfee Taft law firm. He was chief engineer of Corken International Corporation where he held patents for several pump and compressor designs, and was an engineer with Idex Corporation.
