Ray Marcus Wolf was born March 6, 1961 in Oklahoma City to J.R. Wolf and Peggy Madden. He died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City after a brief battle with cancer. Wolf, married to Vinita native Mary Logan Wolf, lived in Oklahoma City.In 1989, Wolf started Ray the Painter, a successful commercial and residential paint contracting company. The business continues to operate throughout central Oklahoma.Wolf contributed significantly in the area of drug and alcohol recovery. He believed that by helping one, you help many, and lived as a servant to others in the quest for sobriety. Sober for seventeen years at the time of his death, he was an active board member for the Referral Center for Alcohol and Drug Services of Central Oklahoma. A nine-year volunteer for Drug Recovery, Inc., he chaired weekly AA meetings and assisted DRI clients in many ways. In 2002, he cofounded the Fishing for Recovery bass fishing tournament, which raised thousands of dollars for drug recovery efforts. He was a cofounder and partner in Sober Grounds, a coffee house on May Avenue, which served as a gathering spot for recovering individuals. He also owned and helped operate Unity House, a transitional residential facility in Oklahoma City for recovering women.With his wife, Wolf was the consummate outdoorsman. Scuba diving in the Caribbean and Central America, canoeing and kayaking on Oklahoma rivers and creeks, bass and trout fishing throughout Oklahoma, rock climbing in Red Rock Canyon, mountain biking, and extended trips to the family cabin on Colorado"™s Frying Pan River brought him great joy. Wolf also treasured his many dogs over the years, including beloved Irish wolfhound, Jake.Wolf is survived by his wife, Mary; parents, Peggy and Mike Madden and J.R. and Lorene Wolf of Oklahoma City; sister Tracey Wolf Saunders and husband Rob of Oklahoma City, sister, Cheryl Wolf Moore and husband Billy of Nashville; brother, John Dale Wolf and wife Jimmika of Oklahoma City; stepbrothers Terry and Cary Carrington, stepsister Sherry Carrington McDowell; grandmother Roberta Shirk; six nieces and nephews; and many loving friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by grandparents Harold and Ruth Classen Wolf and Howard Shirk.
