Richard J. (Dick) Burney passed away on September 2, 2009. He was born to Bud and Lynn Burney on May 31, 1949 in Gainesville, Texas. Dick graduated from Ardmore High School, Ardmore OK, and went to Emporia State, Emporia Kansas, to earn a bachelors degree in Music. He later earned Master degrees in Trumpet Performance from Emporia State and Administration in Education from the University of Oklahoma. Dick was a dedicated educator by being a band director, high school principal and Superintendent of schools for the last 38 years. Furthermore, he was an incredible trumpet player and one of the best golfers around. Dick is survived by his wife Darla, his son Craig and wife Cammie, son Brian and wife Beth, son Davin and wife Amberlea, daughter Ashley and husband Shawn, twin brother Pat and wife Ginger, nephew Doug Burney, niece Dawn McMahon and family, his Aunt Kathleen, special sister and brother-in-law Billie and Garry Steiner and family, and a host of very special friends. However, his pride and joy were the 10 beautiful grandchildren he loved and adored more than life itself. A celebration of Dick"™s life will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Crossings Community Church in OKC. In lieu of flowers the family requests a contribution to the Crossings Music Ministry.
