Ruth Jean ("Jen") Twining passed away on June 29, 2011 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, after long battling many illnesses. Jen was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on April 2, 1938, a dearly loved sister of; her eldest brother Bob, Robert Twining of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Bud, Herbert Twining of Lenox, Michigan; Dick, Richard Twining now deceased; Billie, William Twining now deceased; Peggy, Margaret Stokes of Solana Beach, California and Ann Klein of Guthrie, Oklahoma. Jen was a Registered Nurse and practiced in several large psychiatric hospitals in both California and Oregon. She fell in love with Oregon when her brother Billie told her of its beauty following his trip to that area of the country. Once there, it was her one true home; she loved it passionately and worked tirelessly to protect its wildlife and land. She took several years from work to lobby for environmental issues and was instrumental in the passing of Oregon land conservation laws. Jen never married and had children of her own, but loved all little ones and always helped them feel special. She moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma in 2002 to be closer to her sister Ann as her health failed. She was her sister"™s best friend, the most precious Aunt to Ann"™s daughter Jessica and "Auntie Jen" to her son Aiden. Her wit and wisdom is greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Guthrie Animal Shelter, via Ann Klein, 6175 E. Prairie Grove Lane, Guthrie. It was destroyed in a tornado that swept through Guthrie on May 24, 2011. Jen was very devoted to rescuing homeless animals. Her particular love was cats, caring for many over the years. She is survived by Max, her tuxedo kitty that was a constant companion during her years of illness.
