Spurgene Ryan

Memorial Service Thursday, March 12th, 2015 - 11:00 AM - First Christian Church of Oklahoma City 3700 N. Walker - Oklahoma City, OK - 73118 Spurgene Ryan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, joined her Lord in heaven on March 7, 2015 in Oklahoma City. Throughout her life, Spurgene was brave, caring, loving, and devoted to her family. She loved God, her church, her family and her music. She enhanced the lives of many during her 95 years with her gentle kindness. Spurgene was born December 2, 1919, in Sapulpa, OK to Spurgeon and Louella (Threlkeld) Taylor. She married the love of her life John F. Ryan on September 19, 1940. Johnny preceded her in death on April 30, 1969. Johnny and Spurgene had two sons, Don and Jim, who will be forever blessed for having Spurgene as their mother. Devoted to her sons, she served as PTA President at their schools: Madison Elementary, Taft Junior High and Northwest Classen H.S. She assisted in her husband’s accounting firm and later served as a long-time receptionist at First Christian Church. One of Spurgene’s greatest joys and contributions was playing piano for her Sunday school class for 62 years, as well as playing on opening night at the Jewel Box Theatre in her later years. In addition, she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by son Don Ryan and wife Teresa of OKC, and son Jim Ryan of Austin, TX, grandson Chris Ryan of Idaho Springs, CO, grandson Jaret Pirtle and wife Terri of Bixby, OK and granddaughter Tara Luse and husband Mat of OKC.
