Velma J. Ulmer, passed away on Saturday January 23, 2021 at The Grand in Bethany OK. She was born to Harvey D. Spencer and Hazel Snow in Toledo, OH in 1926, graduating from Olney High School (Northwood) where she was a majorette. She went on to work at the Weather Bureau at Metcalf Airport, and several Secretarial, Administrative jobs. Later in life she went back to school to become a Cosmetologist and owned her own Beauty shop, called Mane Event in Toledo. She retired in 1988. She was an avid dancer and performed in Toledo as a young girl, specializing in tap, toe-tap and baton. She owned her own dance studio in downtown Toledo in the 1940’s. She was a past member of the Toledo Chapter of the Order of Eastern Stars, Ladies Shriners, Maumee Valley Zonta and an AAU official in swimming. Velma is survived by children Darlene Scott (Mark) and Mark Bye; son-in-law Paul Popejoy; grandchildren Mark Scott (Kendra Ellinger), Melissa Scott (Jake Mrkvicka), Eric Bye (Nikki), Kenneth Bye and Rebecca Michel (Michael); four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Pat Snow; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Rhonda L. Bye, her parents; step-father Harry Snow; sister June Goeckerman and brother Larry Snow. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Maumee Ohio with internment at Toledo Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd, 10928 SW 15th St., Yukon, OK 73099.
