Viola Fern (Wheeler) Cripe

Viola Cripe passed away March 26, 2014, at the age of 96 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born in Chicago Illinois, she married Ellsworth (Ellie) Cripe in 1941. They lived in several locations while Ellie served in the Coast Guard then moved to Peoria, Illinois where they raised their family. Vi was an active member of West Bluff Christian Church in West Peoria and numerous service organizations throughout her long life. She and Ellie retired to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas where she was an active member of Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church and a volunteer at the Fairfield Bay Library. She eventually moved to Indian Rock Village in Fairfield Bay. In 2012 she relocated to Oklahoma City to spend time close to her family. Vi was an inspiration to her family and friends remaining independent well into her 90’s. Viola was predeceased by her parents, her sister Helen, and her husband Ellie. She is survived by her daughter Rev. Dr. Sandra (Rev. Dr. Ron) Stroh and son Randy (Robbie) Cripe; grandchildren Jeff Holmes, Kimberly (Gregg) Reeves, Dr. Emily (Chris Grivas) Cripe and Brian Cripe; and great grandchildren Sophie and Parker Reeves. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Per her wishes, she has been cremated and will be laid to rest in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas with her beloved Ellie. Arrangements are being handled by Corbett Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society. .
