William Martin Capps, 87, died peacefully on Monday, February 28, 2011, at the Norman Oklahoma Veterans Center. He was born in Springfield, Missouri, August 27, 1923, the son of Carl Mabry Capps and Ella Bell Capps. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. A graduate of both Oklahoma State University and University of Oklahoma, he worked as an independent petroleum geologist in Wichita, KS and Oklahoma City, OK. Upon retirement, he volunteered at various state and national parks in the American Southwest. He is proceeded in death by his brothers, Carl Capps, Jr. and Jack Capps. He is survived by his four children: Lisa Capps Padesky of Wheaton, IL; Joseph M. Capps of Underhill, VT; Carol Capps Hayes of Houston, TX; William W. Capps of Los Angeles, CA; his sister, Barbara Bunce and her husband Bob Bunce, and their children Cathryn DeSpain and Marsha Sharp; eight grandchildren: Tara, Melissa, Jeremy, and Jordan Hayes; Andrew and Emma Padesky; Hillary and Lena Capps; his nephew Warren Capps of Alexandria, VA, and niece Wendy Welcomer of Harrisburg, PA; and cousin Clara Walt Bowman, of Tulsa, OK.
