William Michael Johnson, affectionately known as Bill, Mike, Pa Pa, and Uncle Mike was born to the union of William B. and Lenora D. Johnson on July 9, 1951, in Columbus Ohio. He passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 73.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents William and Lenora Johnson, brother Bernard Sheridan, and sisters Marilyn Bose, Barbara Hairston, Vernice Wade and Carolyn Walker.
Mike grew up in Sylvania Ohio where he attended and graduated from high school. Mike proudly served in the United States Air Force from May 1971 to May 1975 during the Vietnam era. Mike served as a B52 Crew Chief stationed in Thailand where he displayed dedication and exceptional technical skills.
Mike lived a life marked by generosity, wisdom and service to others. Following his military service, Mike dedicated his career to helping others as a substance abuse counselor. He worked at Griffin Memorial Hospital, Hillcrest Osteopathic Hospital, and Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma. Known for his natural knack with complex systems, Mike was also a whiz with computers and cars. Mike loved reading, flying kites, working on cars, and flying RC airplanes.
His life was a reflection of his passions and his commitment to supporting those in need. Mike shared his experiences, strength, and hope with many seeking a better life, exemplifying a spirit of recovery and resilience.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory, son Michael Evans, grandson Michael Childres Demitus Haynes, grand-daughter Mikayla Evans, sisters Yvonne Shears, and Elizabeth Ann Johnson, and a host of nieces and nephews and friend of 30 plus years Learnard “Lenny” Vile.
Mike's legacy of kindness, mentorship, and community involvement will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who loved and knew him.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the family home in Toledo, Ohio on November 2, 2024.
